Prior to co-organizing PLP, Angie worked for the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries. In 2007, Angie was awarded the Partner Award for Innovation presented by the Oregon Emergency Management Association. In 2005, she received the Non-Profit Leader in Natural Hazard Risk Reduction award presented by the Partners for Disaster Resistance & Resilience: Oregon Showcase State Initiative. She was also awarded the 2003 Award of Excellence for a nonprofit agency on both Daycare Retrofit Work and the Preschool Earthquake Safety Curriculum. In 1999, she received two Awards of Excellence from the Western Seismic Policy Council for "Tsunami Education Strategy" and "Daycare and Head Start Retrofit" safety projects. She is currently serving as Chair of the PLP Board of Directors. She is chair of the Preschool Safety Education Committee. While with DOGAMI,  also she has served on the State of Oregon  Historic/Geological Markers Committee and implemented the Educational Tsunami Interpretative Marker Program that is currently used in Oregon, California and Washington.

Bill has been a journalist for 29 years, the last 16 at The Oregonian in Portland, OR. He has covered education for 19 years.  He co-authored a book on education reform, Poisoned Apple, published by St. Martin's Press in 1996. He served on the board of the Education Writers Association for a decade, and as president in 1998 and 1999. He was a Nieman Fellow at Harvard University in 1998-99. He is now general assignment and special projects report for The Oregonian's Family and Education Team.

Anne was born and raised in Washington. She graduated from Oregon State University in 2006 with a degree in Business Marketing and a minor in Merchandise Management.  After working in retail for a short time she became interested in teaching preschoolers and is currently an assistant teacher at St. Matthew Lutheran Preschool.  Anne has taken Early Childhood Development classes and is interested in pursuing her Masters in Early Childhood Education.

 

 

Bert Kile, Director

Bert is the Emergency Services Director with the Oregon Trails Chapter of the American Red Cross.  Prior to working at the Red Cross, he spent thirty years in the Portland Fire Bureau.  He has responded to over thrirty National disasters including the Oregon flood of 1996 and 2007, Hurricanes Marilyn and Katrina, the airline crashes of Egypt Air and Flighty 261 and the disaster of September 11, 2001, at the Pentagon.  Bert served as President of the Oregon Emergency Management Association and currently serves on the Governor's Seismic Safety Policy Advisory Committee, the state's Emergency Planning Committee, Health Policy Advisory Committee and Bio-terrorism Advisory Committee.

 

 

 

Deb Treusdell, Director

Deb ended her 15-year newspaper career to expand her occassional consulting into a full-time business -- Sterling Concepts and Communication, Inc.  In February 2007, Treusdell was awarded the contract to develop and implement the TSUNAMI PREP program for the City of Seaside (Oregon).  She is an active volunteer in the community.  She was awarded the 2008 Partner Award for Innovation presented by the Oregon Emergency Management Association.

  

 

 

 

Dr. Donald A. Hull,  Co-Founder & Advisor  Background:  Geology

Don was the Director and State Geologist for the Oregon Department of Geology and Mineral Industries for 21 years. He had an operating responsibility for a staff of 26. The Department was actively engaged in the evaluation of geological hazards, including the mitigation of earthquake and tsunami risks. Don was a member of the Executive Committee and Treasurer of the American Geological Institute; member of the Federal Emergency Management Agency Technical Mapping Advisory Council; President and member of the Executive Committee of Association of American State Geologists; member of National Research Council committee on offshore geologic information; and numerous other boards and commissions. Hull served as PLP's Executive Director until April of 2005.  Don "retired" from PLP in December 2005, but will continue to volunteer on projects and serve as an advisor.

 

Sue Patterson, Advisor                            Background:  Emergency Management

Sue is with the Office of Consolidated Emergency Management in Washington County, OR. Previously she worked for the city of Tualatin as Program Coordinator for Emergency Management, Solid Waste Management and various public works activities. She designed and conducted several disaster response exercises and provided updates to existing plans and procedures. She worked for 20 years with the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross. In her early years with the Red Cross, she developed and taught curriculum in the areas of First Aid and Leadership Development for Youth and participated on a National Red Cross committee. In her later years with Red Cross, she lead a group effort to create a new Community Disaster Education Program. Under her leadership, the group developed a number of products and programs that are still in use today both at the local and national levels.
