We have developed award-winning education material designed to teach pre and early-school age children how to protect themselves before and during a disaster.
PRESCHOOL SAFETY EDUCATION PROGRAM
- PLP organized a steering committee to develop age-appropriate earthquake training materials. The committee consisted of early preschool educators representing a variety of childcare settings including Head Start, YMCA, Oregon Association for the Education of Young Children, Oregon Association of Child Care Directors, State of Oregon Child Care Division, American Red Cross and State Farm Insurance.
- The Preschool Safety Education Program won a 2003 Award in Excellence presented by the Western States Seismic Policy Council. www.wsspc.org
- Oregon is the first state in the nation to equip all state-licensed child care facilities with the comprehensive, age-appropriate Preschool Safety Education Program. The materials were distributed to
1,265 state-licensed childcare facilities with the capacity to serve 56,352 young children in all 36 Oregon counties.
